History of ECA

Excel Christian Academy (ECA) was founded in 1993 by Dr. Joe E. Edwards as a ministry of the Cartersville Church of God, now known as The Church at Liberty Square. Opening its doors with 56 students, the school was established with a vision to provide a quality Christ-centered education in a nurturing environment.

For the first 25 years of its history, Excel Christian Academy was located at 325 Old Mill Road in Cartersville, Georgia. During this time, the school grew steadily and developed a strong reputation for academic excellence, spiritual growth, and character development.

A significant milestone in the school’s history came in 1997, when ECA earned accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Today, ECA continues to maintain accreditation through Cognia, the organization that now encompasses SACS and other accrediting agencies. Notably, Excel Christian Academy is the only private school in Bartow County with Cognia accreditation, reflecting its long-standing commitment to educational excellence and continuous improvement.

In 2018, ECA entered a new chapter when its Old Mill Road campus was sold to Crosspoint City Church. The school relocated to its current campus at 54 Seventh Street, Emerson, Georgia, and began the 2018-2019 school year in its new location.

Today, Excel Christian Academy serves approximately 110 students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Guided by its mission and commitment to Christ-centered education, ECA continues to provide a nurturing environment where students are equipped for academic success, spiritual growth, leadership, and lifelong learning
